  1. Data derived from DAPI-stained nuclei (see Materials and Methods) observed using a fluorescence microscope. Each value represents the mean ± s.d. of the percentage of nuclei with different morphology: regular lobate nuclei (normal), two distinct nuclear lobes (mitotic) and enriched pluri-lobate nuclei (apoptotic). During selected differentiation times (0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days), the percentages were calculated from values derived from five randomly selected fields each containing about 50-60 cells on slices, in duplicate for each sample.
