Food intake and weight gain. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed control (CD; n = 10) or western (WD; n = 12) diet for 3 weeks. (A) Food intake was monitored daily throughout the study. (B) Caloric intake was calculated based on the calorie content per gram of diet. For CD calories = 1345.8 Kcal/gram; WD = 3928.3 Kcal/g. (C) Body weight was measured at the beginning of the study just prior to feeding and at the end of the study; (D) average weight gained per mouse was calculated at the end of the study.
