Table 1 Blood glucose, body and tissue weights, and plasma hormone concentrations of control and diabetic rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats, at 8–10 weeks of age, were fasted for 18–24 h and administered 0.02 M citrate saline buffer (Control) or streptozotocin (65 mg/kg) in citrate buffer (Diabetic) by intraperitoneal injection. All parameters shown below were determined 8 weeks after the administration of streptozotocin or buffer. Comparisons between groups were performed using unpaired t-test and two-tailed p values are listed below each parameter examined.
