Total glutathione in liver (A) and ileum mucosa (B) of rats fed the control diet (white bars) or the same diet supplemented with buthionine sulfoximine (BSO; grey bars) or cystine (black bars). Rats were orally infected with 1.109colony-forming units S. enteritidis (n = 8 per diet) or received saline only (non-infected animals; n = 6 per diet). Results are expressed as means ± SE. An asterisk indicates a significant difference from the control diet group (either non-infected or infected rats; p < 0.05).
